Congress Passes COVID-19 Coronavirus Response Act.
On March 18, the Senate passed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.  

This is designed to address the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on American families.  It introduces a federal mandated paid sick leave and temporarily expands the Family and Medical Leave Act.  For ACSI Christian schools this does apply; there is no exemption for private employers or nonprofits.  This will go into effect on April 2 and expires December 31, 2020.  It has two provisions that impact our Christian Schools.  

ERATE's New Cycle 2020

Administrators are encouraged to take advantage of important funds available to all Christian Schools. Many Christian Schools around the country are receiving connectivity discounts for internet, WIFI, and other infrastructure improvements at a rate of several hundred dollars a student. Because of the New Rules Released recently there will be a continuation of these funds, and internal connections next year.

House Bill 1800 Tuition Grant

Rep. Mike Turzai’s House Bill 1800, will bring school choice to students in the struggling Harrisburg School District. ACSIPA is requests that you contact your State Representative immediately and ask them to support
Test scores for the students in the district have been among the lowest in Pennsylvania for years. And for the second time in a decade, the school has been put in state receivership.

Guide for Title II Funds

Christian school administrators can request Title II, Part A funds. Local educational agencies  (LEA) are fiscally responsible agents that ensure the disbursement of these funds are in accordance with federal guidelines.

House passes $100 million EITC Expansion

The House voted Tuesday to nearly double the size of a state tax credit for individuals and businesses that donate money for private school scholarships.

The bill expands the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program by $100 million, from the current $110 million per year to $210 million. The bill passed 111-85, with every Republican and four Democrats voting yea.

House Speaker Mike Turzai, the legislation’s sponsor and an ally of school choice, said the bill was about recognizing that “when it comes to education, one size does not fit all.”

HB 800 EITC Support Letter

ACSIPA writes to express its full support for House Bill 800 and the expansion of the EITC Program. As a group made up of hundreds of Christian schools in PA, the vast majority participate in some way in the tax credit scholarship program and utilize these critically needed funds to provide education and services to low- and moderate-income families in the Commonwealth.

EITC Rally 2019

The annual EITC Rally is coming up next month. Each year REACH Foundation hosts this rally celebrating the inception of Pennsylvania's EITC Program. The event is widely attended by children, parents, educators and legislators from all over the Commonwealth, and serves as a fantastic opportunity to show the program's success and promote its growth.
